10mm Pea Gravel (10mm Pea Shingle)
Pea gravel, also commonly referred to as 10mm pea shingle, typically ranges in size from 4 mm to 10 mm.
It is supplied in bulk bags weighing a minimum of 800 kg or, alternatively, in 25kg handy bags of 10mm Shingle.
Providing the gravel available in your delivery area suits your personal taste (see further details below), it is ideal for use as a decorative aggregate for drives and gardens. However, please note that 20mm Gravel is generally the recommended size for driveways, as smaller 10mm stones have a tendency to get stuck in car tyre treads.
Around the garden, pea shingle is most often used for decorative purposes in flowerbeds, pots, and on paths, where it provides a comfortable walking surface. It also acts as an effective weed suppressant by blocking sunlight. Other common uses include mixing it with sand, cement, and water to produce a smoother concrete mix, or utilizing it within drainage systems as a 10 mm pipe bedding.
Overall, 4–10mm pea gravel is a versatile, low-maintenance, and durable material that can improve both the look and functionality of your outdoor space.
Benefits of 10mm Gravel:
Versatility
10mm Pea Shingle can be used to create a variety of different landscapes, from simple, natural paths to more elaborate patios and walkways.
Excellent Drainage
Pea gravel is composed of small, rounded stones that allow water to drain away easily. This makes it an excellent choice for areas prone to standing water or where soil erosion is a concern.
Low Maintenance
10mm Gravel is a low-maintenance material that requires no watering, weeding, or mowing, saving you time and effort on your landscaping upkeep.
Pea Gravel FAQ:
What colour gravel will I receive?
Please note: The colour and type of gravel vary depending on your location in the UK. To give you an idea of regional variations, it may be worthwhile to check out our blog post, "A look at the colours and uses of gravel". While variations are not set in stone—excuse the pun—this guide provides a reliable overview of what is available across different regions.
If colour is a specific requirement, please contact our sales team on 01274 602367 or email sales@buildershoponline.co.uk, and we will be happy to advise what regional variations are available in your delivery area.
How do I calculate how much gravel I need?
As a rule of thumb, 1,000 kg will cover approximately 10 m² at a depth of 50 mm. Consequently, our 10mm Gravel Bulk Bags (with a minimum weight of 800 kg) will cover between 8 and 10 m² at a 50 mm depth. If you need further assistance, please use the contact details above to get in touch with your measurements, and we will be happy to help.
How are bulk bags delivered?
Typically, bulk bags of 10mm Gravel are delivered on large, crane off-load wagons that weigh between 17 and 32 tonnes. These vehicles are equipped with a crane that has an approximate reach of 5 metres, allowing it to place the bag in the most suitable position from where the wagon can safely park. If delivery is to a residential address, the wagon usually needs around 3 to 4 car lengths of space to get close to the kerb for optimum reach. Please note that cranes cannot lift over parked vehicles, and there must be no overhead obstructions such as power cables, telephone lines, or tree branches.
If the delivery method above isn't possible, alternative options—such as a pallet delivery—can be arranged. Please note that this would incur a substantial additional cost and must be organized before placing your order.
