Also referred to as 2 x 2 wood or 2 x 2 timber, this relates to the old imperial sizes of 2 inch by 2 inch. Sold by the stated nominal size of 47 x 50mm, the actual finished size of the sawn carcassing timber is around 45 x 45mm but may vary slightly. The regularising (regged) process gives a finished edge that takes 2mm from nominal thickness and 5mm from the nominal width. Once this process has taken place the lengths have slightly rounded edges which makes handling easier.
